Our class is learning to write reports. We are writing reports on things to do with Argentina such as: Gerneral Belgrano, The Dirty War, Carlos Tevez, yerba mate, Eva Peron, the May Revolution and others. We would like to ask for information to help us finish writing our reports. We are asking for information that we can't find ourselves. We hope that you can share your knowledge of Argentina with us. When we have finished our reports we will post them on this blog to share them with you.

    1. Do you know how General Belgrano died? Do people still feel he is important in your country's history? ( asked by Te Ana).

The story of Gral Belgrano's death is well-known. He died because of a disease and he was really poor on that time (even he has done a lot for our country). He didn't have money to pay to the doctor that takes care of him, so Belgrano gave the doctor the only one thing of value he had: his clock.
Belgrano died the 20th june, 1820

  2. 2. What are the common fillings that people like in empanadas? How often do you eat empanadas? Do you eat them as a main meal or for snacks? Where do you buy empanadas? (asked by Kenneth)

well... i use to eat empanadas three or four times a week (almuerzo). The common filling is mince -meat (carne picada), with onion. Also with cheese and ham (jamón y queso); sweet corn, and chard. We can buy them any place where is selled fast-food or delivery food.
We usually eat them as a main food, but in partyes (family parties, for example), we eat them as a snack and then have barbacue or something else.

  3. 3. In what part of Argentina were most of the kidnappings in the Dirty War? Were there any kidnappings near where you live? (asked by Aminder).

Well, this is a dificult thing to talk about. when I went to school, ('90s), people still didn't talk to much about the Dirty War. I think most of the kidnappings were on the important cities: Buenos Aires, Rosario, Córdoba, Santa Fe. But all over the country were dissapeared. Most of them were young people: university students, workers. There are movements here of mothers and grandmothers who fought and fight to found her sons and grandchildren. There is a song of U2, wich talk about the "mothers of the dissapeared" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EcGEmyQ37E&feature=PlayList&p=CB88F458AD308B53&index=15) follow this link!

  4. 4. What do people think of the Boca football team? Who is their star player? (asked by Andy).

Here, in Argentina, people says "somos la mitad más uno" (about the supporters, "we are the half and one more of the people of the country", I hope you understand).
I'm a supporter of the Boca football team, but also of my city team, that plays with Boca sometimes "colón de Santa fe".
The star player of Boca it's Roman Riquelme or Martín Palermo. Here's the official web: http://www.bocajuniors.com.ar/
The stadium it's called "La bombonera", cause it seems like a box of chocolates.

  6. Hello, everybody!!! My english is very basic, but I will try to do my best in order to answer some questions.

How often and when do people drink mate?
As you know, Kat, here in Parana we drink mate very often. "Todo el dia", we say here. You can search on the web about it. The best of drinking mate is that it's an excuse for reunion friends. An oportunity for share a good moment between friends.
Also, we drink mate because the "effects" it causes, like coffee or Coke. It contains "mateina", a sustance similar to cafein, but much more healthy. Because of that, we drink mate while we are working, or studying. It's a tradition very important here.
Later, I will answer more of your questions. I hope I can help.
    Byeeee

  7. Hello everybody!! I'm back to answer the other questions (I want you to do your reports! :-) )

    5. Do people wear special clothes at Christmas time? What do people eat at Christmas time/ (asked by Jenna).

We don't wear special clothes at Christmas. We just were t-shirts, skirts, jeans, something pretty but not too special. It's really warm here at Christmas, so we eat "asado", sandwiches (in my family). But there are familys that eat turkey, and more elaborated meals!
About sweet things, we have europeans influences: peanuts (with chocolates), nougat, walnuts, almonds, panettone...

  8. 6. How long was the May Revolution? Do you learn about this in school? (asked by Nathan).

The May Revolution was seven days long. It started May 18th (1810), and finished May 25th. We called it "Semana de Mayo" (May weekend). One important day was the 22th May, there was a meeting of all the people that wanted to have a new governement; that meeting was called "Cabildo abierto", cause everybody was invited. The 25th, the spanish viceroy - Baltasar Cisneros - renounce, and a new government assumed called "Primera Junta".
We learn about these in school. Primary and secondary school. In all schools have a ceremony to celebrate these days (we recreate that days of the "Semana de mayo")
