Purposes:
·     to identify ways in which scientists work 
·     to develop, extend and increase the variety of presentation skills
·     to develop and extend research  and study skills  and to integrate sources of information
·     to select, evaluate,  and present relevant information concisely
·     to integrate English and Science Curriculum  objectives and learning opportunities
               
For your New Zealand Scientist: 
include all the following information in your poster:
  • the scientist’s name as the heading
  • the field of science - e.g., paleontologist, nuclear physicist, botanist - as the  subheading
  • year  and place of birth – and death, if relevant
  • one fact about childhood or life before becoming a scientist
  • places of study,  research and work
  • scientific discoveries, achievements; has anything been named after them?
  • qualifications and awards
  • one small picture  of scientist (may be computer-generated or other)
  • one other hand drawn relevant illustration with caption
  • a relevant border  

Expectations:
  • present information on 1 side of  unlined A4 paper
  • write your name on back of  project
  • set  work out clearly, relevantly and neatly
  • all work (apart from picture of scientist) to be hand-written or hand-drawn
  • use black pen and coloured pencils – no felts
  • neatness, correct spelling, punctuation,  correct use of capital letters are important
  • use check list and follow instructions carefully
